Bomadi Councillors Move to Impeach Chairman Over N800m Loan Allegations

Fifteen councillors of the Bomadi Local Government legislative arm have formally notified the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, of their intention to impeach the council chairman, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, over allegations of gross misconduct.

In a letter dated January 5, 2026, the lawmakers accused Andaye of abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and actions they claim undermine the authority of the legislative arm. They alleged that the chairman forged councillors’ signatures to secure an N800 million loan from Zenith Bank without legislative approval.

The councillors further accused him of high-handedness in council administration, including the use of vigilantes and thugs to intimidate councillors and citizens, locking the legislative chambers, appointing aides not recognised by law, and secretly paying them with council funds. Other allegations include awarding unbudgeted contracts without approval and diverting jobs to himself.

The impeachment notice was also linked to provisions of the Delta State Local Government Law, with claims that the alleged actions amount to breaches of the chairman’s oath of office and relevant sections of the law governing asset declaration, conduct in office and allegiance.
