Former Super Eagles Star Onazi Survives Lagos Car Accident

Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has recounted a frightening escape after being involved in a car crash in Lagos, which he blamed on alleged drunk driving by occupants of another vehicle. The 31-year-old posted a video on Instagram showing extensive damage to the front of his SUV.

The former Lazio and Trabzonspor player, who helped Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, called on authorities to step up efforts to curb alcohol-impaired driving. He said the incident nearly cost him his life and warned that weak enforcement continues to endanger road users.

The crash comes amid heightened concern over road safety in Nigeria following several serious accidents in recent months. A fatal collision in December that injured boxing star Anthony Joshua and claimed two lives has intensified public pressure for stronger traffic controls and improved road conditions.

Onazi’s message drew an outpouring of support from fans and fellow footballers relieved by his survival. Now with Lithuanian club Žalgiris after stints across Europe, he urged officials to act decisively to prevent similar incidents and save lives.
