Burkina Faso Releases Detained Nigerian Aircraft, Crew
Burkina Faso has freed a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft and 11 military personnel detained after a forced landing earlier this month. The Federal Government confirmed the release on Wednesday evening.
Officials said the breakthrough followed diplomatic engagements led by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who met with Burkina Faso’s leader, Ibrahim Traoré, in Ouagadougou on President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
The aircraft had landed on December 8 due to technical concerns while en route to Europe, triggering questions from Burkinabe authorities. The release ends a brief diplomatic tension between the two countries.
