Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths Holds Inaugural Election in Warri

The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths Association (UIYA) is today conducting its first-ever election at the palace of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The apex youth body was established on August 23, 2025, during the youth day segment of the monarch’s fourth coronation anniversary. UIYA emerged from the merger of all existing youth groups, including the now defunct Itsekiri National Youth Congress (INYC), which had been marred by leadership disputes.

Our correspondent reports that the atmosphere at the palace has been largely peaceful, with delegates voting in an orderly manner. Each community is represented by three delegates two males and one female who are casting their votes one after the other.

A total of 16 positions are being contested, with all aspirants present at the venue. Security has also been heightened, as more than 20 police officers are on ground to ensure law and order.

The election is seen as a fresh step toward unifying Itsekiri youths and strengthening their voice in matters of development and representation across the Warri Kingdom and the Niger Delta region at large.
