WAEC Admits Marking Error, Corrects 2025 Exam Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reviewed and corrected this year’s Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) results after discovering grading errors in some serialised objective papers. The correction increases the number of candidates who obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics, from 754,545 to 1,239,884.
Head of the National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, said the error occurred after the wrong serialised code file was used in scoring English Language Objective Tests (Paper 3). The issue, he explained, did not affect computer-based test centres. He admitted the lapse led to a false decline in candidate performance earlier reported.
WAEC apologised to candidates, parents, and schools for the emotional distress caused and confirmed that corrected results are now available on its portal. The council pledged to uphold transparency and accuracy in future examinations.
