Peter Obi Accuses Tinubu of Using Fake Economic Data to Mask Hardship
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly manipulating economic figures to downplay Nigeria’s worsening situation.
Obi made the comments on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), referencing Tinubu’s 2022 campaign jab in Delta State where the then-APC candidate dismissed the importance of statistics, preferring “food on the table” for Nigerians.
Two years into the administration, Obi said the hunger crisis has worsened and millions are now struggling to eat daily. He accused the government of presenting misleading figures on unemployment, inflation, and GDP growth to create a false image of progress.
Obi said the government’s approach to governance lacks sincerity, competence, and compassion, and stressed that leadership should be based on truth and character rather than political spin.
