INEC Rejects Petition To Recall Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has paused the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate. This decision was made after a review of the petition’s signatures and thumbprints, which accounted for 43.86%, falling short of the 50% required by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s national commissioner and chairman of its information and voter education committee, made the announcement on Thursday, April 3, after the Commission’s regular weekly meeting.

Olumekun explained that for a recall petition to be valid, it must meet the requirements of Section 69(a) of the Constitution, which states that more than half of the registered voters in the constituency must sign. In the case of Kogi Central, with 474,554 registered voters, at least 237,278 signatures are needed.
