Pregnant Woman Dies After Hospital Denies Treatment Over ₦500K Deposit
A pregnant woman in labour has died after allegedly being denied treatment at a hospital for lack of funds. The story was initially shared in February by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, on Instagram and has since gone viral on X.
In the emotional video, the expectant mother, Kemi, is seen in the backseat of a car, visibly weak as her husband tries to keep her conscious, repeatedly calling her name and urging her to stay strong for their children.
According to Folajimi, they first sought care at a private hospital but were turned away because they couldn’t pay the ₦500,000 deposit. They were later referred to a general hospital in Epe, but tragically, Kemi passed away before they could reach it.
In his post announcing her death, Folajimi expressed his grief and frustration with the healthcare system, stating the challenges many face in accessing urgent care. The tragic incident has raised a wider conversation about the need for reforms in Nigeria’s healthcare system, especially regarding the accessibility and affordability of medical services.
