Two Dead as Stampede Erupts at Eid Prayer Grounds
Two people have been confirmed dead following a stampede at the Central Eid praying ground in Gombe, where thousands gathered for prayers and celebrations.
The incident occurred after the Eid prayers on Monday, March 31 which were led by the Chief Imam of Gombe and attended by the state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya. As the large crowd began to disperse, chaos erupted at the exit gate, resulting in a stampede.
Warri Sentinel learnt the chaos broke out at the exit gate as the large crowd dispersed the venue. With over 20 individuals involved in the chaos, claiming the lives of two minors.

Confirming the incident, Buhari Abdullahi, Gombe Police Command spokesperson revealed the crowd made up of mostly women and children was out of control due to the lack of sufficient exit points, which caused overcrowding and panic as people tried to leave.
“22 people were affected, and swift action was taken. Ambulances from the Gombe State Government House rushed 15 victims to Zainab Bulkachuwa Hospital, while seven others were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for medical treatment”
The Police Command has urged organisers of such events to ensure that all entrances and exits are fully open to allow for smooth movement, particularly after large gatherings like the Eid prayers.
