Abigborodo Community Urges Oborevwori to Revive Polytechnic Project
The Abigborodo Community Leaders of Thought have appealed to the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori urging him to grant approval for the long-awaited Delta State Polytechnic to begin operations in the community, located in Warri North Local Government Area. In a letter addressed to the governor, the leaders emphasised the importance of the polytechnic for the region’s development, stating that it would empower young people, reduce rural-urban migration, and contribute to the overall economic growth of the area.
The letter, signed by Dr. Monday Agbeyi, Secretary of the Abigborodo Community Leaders of Thought, commended Governor Oborevwori for his leadership since taking office in May 2023. The community leaders expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to extend his vision of progress to the Delta State Polytechnic, which has faced significant delays and stagnation since its approval in 2010 by former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. The polytechnic was initially intended to provide technical education to young Deltans and address the growing challenges of limited access to higher education.

Despite the promising plans for the polytechnic, the project has stalled in recent years, with little progress made after Governor Uduaghan’s tenure. The community leaders raised concerns that the project might be abandoned entirely, depriving the region of an important educational and economic resource. They argued that the polytechnic’s establishment remains a critical opportunity to improve educational access and drive local development.
The leaders also affirmed the community’s readiness to contribute to the success of the polytechnic by offering existing structures to serve as its take-off campus. These buildings, they believe, would allow the polytechnic to begin operations in the upcoming academic session without significant delays. The leaders urged the governor to prioritise the project, stressing the strategic location of Abigborodo and the potential benefits the polytechnic would bring to both the local community and the wider state.
The Abigborodo leaders expressed their unwavering faith in the governor’s ability to revive the project, citing his success in revitalising stalled initiatives across Delta State. They called on him to take immediate action to ensure the polytechnic becomes a reality, stating that its completion would be a lasting legacy for the governor’s tenure.
