Constituents Urge Recall of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan

Ebira indigenes of Kogi Central have called for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, rejecting claims that the recall effort lacks majority support, insisting the process has widespread backing in the district.

In a statement issued on Thursday, March 20, leaders from the Kogi Central Elites Forum condemned what they called “deliberate mischief” from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s camp, which suggested constituents were misled into backing the recall. The group, representing all five local government areas of Kogi Central, stressed that the recall was not politically motivated but a response to the senator’s actions, which they said had caused “international embarrassment.”

The statement, signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Ibrahim and Prince Akerejola Johnson, criticized Akpoti-Uduaghan’s behavior in the Senate, including her refusal to follow Senate rules, and dismissed claims of blackmail surrounding a recent controversy involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The group clarified that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not intervene until the signature collection phase is complete. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the recall, stating that Akpoti-Uduaghan should return home to better understand her responsibilities as a lawmaker.

“We investigated and we know the truth. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan should come home and learn the art of law-making. It is not about content creation like many people have said,” the statement concluded.
