Olu of Warri Calls for Protection of Mangrove Ecosystems

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, has urged for the protection and preservation of mangrove forests to ensure the sustainability of vital ecosystems.

Speaking at the opening of an art exhibition themed; The Intersecting Worlds of Climate Change, The Mangroves, and Art at the Wings Office Complex in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday, March 5 the Warri monarch emphasized the critical role of mangroves in safeguarding the planet.

The event, curated by Oriiz Onuwaje, attracted key figures and partnerships including Crimson Fusion, National Gallery of Art Nigeria, National Council on Climate Change.

Highlighting the resilience of mangroves in the face of climate change, Ogiame Atuwatse III described the trees as a symbol of endurance, with their roots standing as a testament to life’s tenacity. He called for greater awareness and concerted efforts towards mangrove conservation, especially in light of rising environmental challenges.

The exhibition brought attention to the importance of mangrove restoration and its potential in mitigating climate change impacts.

The event which commenced on Wednesday, March 5 will climax on March 18 serves as part of ongoing environmental awareness campaigns aimed at reducing emissions and promoting sustainability.
