Family Set To Bury Murdered Anambra Lawmaker, Justice Azuka
The late Justice Azuka, the Anambra State lawmaker who represented Onitsha North 1 Constituency, will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 15, 2025, following a solemn announcement from his family on Tuesday, February 11.
Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024 along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Onitsha as he made his way home for Christmas. His lifeless body, was discovered near the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025, leaving his family, constituents, and the wider community in deep mourning.
Warri Sentinel gathered a funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Awka Road, Onitsha, before his final interment at his family residence in Ugwunaobankpa, Onitsha.

The public will have an opportunity to pay their respects during a lying-in-state at Onitsha Stadium at 10:30 am, with the funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am.
In a show of respect, the Anambra State House of Assembly will hold a valedictory session in Azuka’s honour on Friday, February 14, at the Hallowed Chambers in Awka.
During Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze paid a moving tribute to Azuka, remembering him as a dedicated and selfless lawmaker.
“His commitment and dedication to duty were never in doubt. He was always ready to learn and serve. He was the very heart of this Hallowed Chambers,” Udeze said, his voice heavy with sorrow.
The 40-year-old legislator, a prominent figure in the Labour Party, had recently reclaimed his mandate after a court ruling annulled the victory of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election.
Azuka’s service to his state included his role as Chairman of the House Committee on CSO Establishments and Labour Matters, as well as his position as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions.
