Okpebholo Renames Edo University

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has officially renamed Edo State University, Iyamho.

The decision, which restores the institution’s original name, was confirmed in a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor on Monday, December 30.

According to the statement, the Governor has approved the name change with immediate effect, and all future documentation related to the university will reflect the new title.

The institution had previously been renamed Edo State University, Uzairue, during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The university was initially named Edo State University, Iyamho, by its founder, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, in recognition of his hometown.

Okpebholo’s decision now returns the university to its founding identity.
