Delta Polytechnic Introduces 16 New Academic Programmes

Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, has received approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to launch 16 new academic programmes, marking a major milestone in its academic growth. This development follows a comprehensive resource verification exercise by the NBTE, ensuring that the institution meets the rigorous standards required for the introduction of these programmes.

The announcement was made during the Polytechnic’s 2024 Nine Lessons and Carols Festival by the institution’s Rector, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri. He revealed that the newly approved programmes encompass a wide array of disciplines, including Food Science and Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, and Photography and Multimedia Technology, among others.

“This expansion of academic offerings aligns with our commitment to providing globally competitive and sustainable education that equips our students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world,” Professor Ufuophu-Biri stated.

With the addition of these 16 programmes, the Polytechnic now offers a total of 46 academic programmes, further solidifying its reputation as a premier institution for technical and vocational education in Nigeria. Professor Ufuophu-Biri credited the unwavering support of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as the efforts of the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerovwo Tonukari, and the State House Committee on Education, chaired by Chief Charles Emetulu, for making this achievement possible.

In his speech, the Rector acknowledged the critical roles played by these stakeholders in driving the growth of educational infrastructure in the state, which has led to significant progress at the Polytechnic.

Professor Ufuophu-Biri also noted the positive impact of government interventions on staff morale, which has, in turn, contributed to significant innovations and academic achievements at the institution. According to him, one of the most notable recent accomplishments is the development of a fuel-less generator, created by the Polytechnic’s research team. The generator operates on a unique symbiotic mechanistic pattern, a breakthrough that demonstrates the institution’s commitment to impactful and forward-thinking research.

“Our staff and students continue to excel in their academic pursuits, and this new development will no doubt contribute to the national development agenda, positioning the Polytechnic as a key player in Nigeria’s technical education sector,” Professor Ufuophu-Biri concluded.
