Supreme Court Dismisses Case to Remove President Tinubu

The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit seeking the removal of President Bola Tinubu, ruling the case to be frivolous and without merit.

The suit, filed by Ambrose Owuru, the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), accused the president of having links to the CIA and involvement in a drug-related case.

Owuru had petitioned the court to declare President Tinubu unfit for office, citing his alleged ties to the US Central Intelligence Agency and a prior forfeiture of $460,000 to the US government in connection with a drug case. Owuru argued that these factors compromised Tinubu’s ability to govern effectively.

The Supreme Court also imposed a N5 million fine on Owuru for filing what it deemed a baseless case.

In addition to Tinubu’s presidency, Owuru also named former President Muhammadu Buhari as a respondent in the case SC/CV/667/2023, claiming that Buhari’s tenure was unconstitutional.

He further contended that he was the rightful winner of the 2019 presidential election and that Buhari had illegitimately occupied the presidency for eight years. Owuru had previously filed a suit to remove Buhari, but it was dismissed due to a scheduling error.

Owuru’s legal team called for the court to disqualify Tinubu and immediately inaugurate him as president, arguing that this would restore his alleged stolen mandate.

The respondents in the case included President Tinubu, former President Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
