Bill to Establish Federal Polytechnic Bomadi Advances in Senate

The Nigerian Senate has passed the first reading of a bill proposing the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic Bomadi. Sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas of the Delta South Senatorial District, the bill, SB 540, was introduced on Thursday, signaling a crucial step toward the creation of an institution aimed at enhancing technical and vocational education in the region.

Senator Thomas stressed the importance of the Federal Polytechnic Bomadi as a catalyst for addressing key challenges facing the youth in the Delta South area. He noted that the institution would provide much-needed skills training, helping to reduce youth unemployment and restiveness, while simultaneously driving the region’s economic development, particularly in the oil sector.

“The Federal Polytechnic Bomadi will serve as a transformative platform for technical education, empowering our youth with the skills required to contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth,” he said. According to him, the polytechnic will also play an important role in engaging the vibrant youth of Delta South in meaningful, creative education, which will help reduce social unrest and boost our oil production output in the region.

The senator revealed that one of the key objectives of the proposed polytechnic is to expand access to education and create pathways for employment.

Senator Thomas also appealed to the people of Delta South to support the bill, urging them to actively participate in advocating for its passage. “The establishment of the Federal Polytechnic Bomadi is a step toward a brighter future for our youth and the overall development of the region. I call on all well-meaning citizens to lend their support to this important initiative,” he stated.
