Delta Govt Adopts N936bn Budget Proposal for 2025 Fiscal Year
The Delta State Government has approved a budget proposal of N936 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, marking a 29.12 percent increase over the current year’s budget.
This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sunny Ekedayen, during a press briefing following a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Mr. Ekedayen, joined by State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza; Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu; and Commissioner for Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark, outlined the budget’s composition. Recurrent expenditure will account for N348.7 billion, or 37.25 percent, while capital expenditure is set at N587.4 billion, representing 62.75 percent of the budget.
Mr. Ekedayen stated that the 2025 budget would focus on priority sectors, including agriculture, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth development, tourism, poverty alleviation, infrastructure, and education. “These focus areas will continue to drive our state’s development and economic resilience,” he said.
Also, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, issued a directive to contractors lagging in project mobilization, cautioning that contracts with prolonged delays could face termination. “There is zero tolerance for project delays, especially with the onset of the dry season. Contractors must take advantage of favorable conditions to mobilize to their sites promptly,” Dr. Osuoza warned.
The approved budget proposal will be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for further deliberation.
