NRC Denies Dafinone, Ukah Were Passengers in Derailed Warri-Itakpe Train
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, has dismissed reports claiming that Senator Ede Dafinone and former Delta State Secretary to the Government, Patrick Ukah, were among passengers aboard the train that derailed along the Warri–Itakpe corridor on Monday.
Opeifa made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, stating that the two public figures were not on the train when the incident occurred near Agbor in Delta State.
The NRC, however, acknowledged the contributions of Dafinone and Ukah during the emergency response that followed the accident, which claimed four lives.
According to Opeifa, both men played a key role in mobilising first responders and emergency personnel who participated in rescue operations at the scene.
“The NRC commended both individuals for their significant role in mobilising first responders and emergency personnel who participated in the rescue operations following the incident,” he said.
The corporation also apologised for the misinformation, expressing regret over the error and any inconvenience or embarrassment it may have caused, while appreciating the swift support rendered by the two men during the rescue efforts.
