Agbor Train Accident: 35 Survivors Receiving Treatment as Rescue Efforts Continue on Tuesday

 

Rescue and recovery operations continued Tuesday following the tragic train accident in Delta State, with authorities confirming it claimed four lives and dozens of injured passengers are currently receiving medical care across multiple hospitals.

According to updates from officials involved in the emergency response, 35 injured passengers were evacuated from the scene and are being treated at three health facilities within the Ika axis.

The Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Area, Hon. Monday Odigwe, disclosed that 13 victims are receiving treatment at Central Hospital, Agbor, while 12 are at General Hospital, Owa-Ojibu, and another 10 are being attended to at General Hospital, Owa-Alero.

Emergency responders reportedly moved injured passengers to nearby hospitals shortly after the incident, while survivors who escaped without injuries were transported away from the accident site. The bodies of those who lost their lives were taken to mortuaries.

Security agencies were also commended for their swift response at the scene. Police personnel were deployed to secure passengers’ belongings and maintain order during the rescue operation.

To aid evacuation efforts, buses were dispatched to move survivors and injured passengers from the crash site to safer locations and medical facilities.

Officials overseeing the response said there were assurances that work would be carried out to remove the affected train from the tracks on Tuesday as recovery efforts progressed.

Reacting to the tragedy, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also pledged continued support for victims receiving treatment and said the government would keep monitoring developments surrounding the incident.

The accident has sparked concern among residents and travellers, with many awaiting further details on the cause of the crash and the outcome of ongoing investigations.
