NDDC, Partner Launch Anti-Cultism Campaign in Delta Schools
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with Triumphant Global Oil Synergy Limited, has intensified efforts to combat cultism among youths through an awareness campaign across selected secondary schools in Delta State.
The two-day sensitisation programme began at Emore Grammar School in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, with the objective of discouraging students from engaging in cult-related activities.
The campaign later moved to Yonwuren College, Ugbuwangue, in Warri South Local Government Area, and concluded at Ekpan Secondary School in Uvwie Local Government Area.
Speaking during the exercise, Manager of the NDDC Directorate of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Dr. Princewill Nengi, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to initiatives that foster peace and stability across the Niger Delta region.
He said the programme was designed to reduce cultism in society and encourage young people to embrace positive values that would secure their future.
According to him, “The essence of this programme is to bring cultism to the barest minimum and ensure sustainable peace and progress in the Niger Delta region. NDDC will continue to support projects that promote peace in the region.”
The programme, themed “Anti-Cultism Campaign: Say No to Cultism, Yes to a Better Future,” highlighted the dangers associated with cult activities and their impact on individuals and communities.
In his presentation, resource person Mr. Alfred Justice explained that cult groups operate as secret associations whose activities often run contrary to established laws and societal values.
Justice, an Administrative Officer with the Anti-Cultism Volunteer Corps, Delta State Chapter, urged students to avoid actions and associations that could threaten their education, future ambitions and personal safety.
