DESOPADEC Contractors Hail One-Year Board Tenure Extension
The Indigenous Contractors Forum of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has congratulated members of the commission’s governing board following the approval of a one-year tenure extension.
Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori had earlier announced the extension and subsequently forwarded the request to the Delta State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
In a statement jointly signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Engr. Ogie Samson, and Secretary, Prince Charles Ebigbagha, the group described the governor’s decision as timely and deserving, citing what it called renewed progress and revitalisation within the commission in recent times.
The forum noted that the extension reflected confidence in the board’s performance, particularly in driving development projects across oil-producing communities and maintaining cordial relationships with stakeholders.
Special commendation was given to the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Chief Kome Okpobo, and the Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor, for what the forum described as their commitment to the vision of the commission and effective representation of the governor’s development agenda.
According to the contractors’ body, the leadership of the board under Chief John Nani has strengthened cooperation between DESOPADEC and indigenous contractors while improving the commission’s engagement with host communities.
“We believe the extension is a clear indication of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s confidence in the board’s ability to continue delivering on the mandate of DESOPADEC,” the statement said.
The forum also praised the governor for sustaining continuity under his M.O.R.E agenda, expressing optimism that the additional one year would allow the board to consolidate on existing achievements and deepen development efforts across the mandate areas.
It further pledged continued support for both the governor and the DESOPADEC leadership, stressing the need for unity and collaboration in advancing development in oil-bearing communities across Delta State.
