Delta Lawmakers Extend DESOPADEC Board Tenure
The Delta State House of Assembly has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), following a request from Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The approval was granted during plenary, where lawmakers also screened and confirmed Mr. Cosmos Igbenije as a member of the Commission’s Governing Board.

A letter from Governor Oborevwori, read by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, stated that the request became necessary following the expiration of the current board’s tenure in line with the law establishing DESOPADEC.
According to the Governor, the extension will ensure continuity in the Commission’s programmes and strengthen the delivery of its responsibilities to oil-producing communities across Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori also informed the House that Mr. Cosmos Igbenije was nominated to replace Mrs. Cordelia Anyangwu, who resigned from the board.
The House later dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for the screening exercise, after which lawmakers confirmed Igbenije’s nomination.
Following the confirmation, Speaker Guwor charged the new board member to discharge his duties diligently and in line with the laws guiding the Commission.
