IGC Rejects APC Screening Outcome, Backs Only Itsekiri Candidates in Warri South II
The Itsekiri Grassroots Coalition (IGC) has condemned the outcome of the APC screening exercise for Delta State House of Assembly aspirants, describing as unjust the alleged disqualification of the “most qualified Itsekiri aspirant” for Warri South-West Constituency in favour of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
The group also warned that it would back only Itsekiri candidates in Warri South Constituency II over decades of perceived political exclusion.
Speaking during the inauguration of the IGC Warri South Chapter on Thursday, National Coordinator, Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, also faulted the screening out of aspirants in Warri South Constituencies I and II and a sitting lawmaker representing Warri North.
Edema, represented by Bene Eburajolo, said the coalition would support only Itsekiri candidates in Warri South Constituency II, claiming that Itsekiri people in the area had been denied the right to vote and be voted for over two decades.
“We will not remain silent and allow such injustice to go unchallenged,” he said.
The group restated unwavering support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, just as it reaffirmed its endorsement of Prince Michael Diden (Ejele) for the Delta South Senatorial District seat ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The newly inaugurated chairman for Warri South, Comrade Jemine Ejegi pledged to dutifully carry out his assignment.
