INEC Set to Begin Delineation Exercise in Delta, Kogi, Benue, Jigawa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun steps to reinstate 20 state constituencies previously affected by court rulings across Delta, Kogi, Benue and Jigawa states.

According to the Commission’s Secretary, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the affected constituencies include four in Delta State, 11 in Kogi, five in Benue, and one in Jigawa. The move follows recent internal approvals aimed at addressing outstanding constituency delineation issues in line with judicial decisions.

INEC has fixed Monday, May 4, 2026, for the commencement of field operations, starting with the deployment of headquarters officials to the affected states. A stakeholders’ meeting will hold on Tuesday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a training session for state-based teams later the same day at 3:00 p.m.

Fieldwork is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 6, with joint teams from the national and state offices carrying out data collection across the constituencies. The exercise will also involve consultations with community stakeholders and the gathering of updated geographical and population data for revised constituency maps.

The Commission added that Resident Electoral Commissioners have been tasked with working closely with traditional rulers, community leaders and security agencies to ensure smooth execution of the exercise. INEC reaffirmed that the process is aimed at improving representation and complying fully with court rulings.
