NUT Urges Implementation of Grade 17 Teachers’ Promotion
The Nigeria Union of Teachers in Delta State has pushed for the immediate rollout of the circular needed to implement the newly approved promotion of primary school graduate teachers to Grade Level 17, insisting that the policy must move from approval to action without delay.
The union, in a communiqué issued after its State Executive Council meeting in Asaba, said the directive approved by Sheriff Oborevwori would only have real impact when backed by an official circular that guarantees full execution across the system. It noted that teachers affected by years of stagnation are expecting swift compliance.
Attention was also drawn to what the union called selective promotion among secondary school teachers, with a demand that all eligible personnel be elevated to Grade Level 17. It warned that partial implementation risks breeding dissatisfaction and tension within the workforce.
The council further rejected ongoing mid-session transfers of teachers, stating that such actions disrupt learning and school stability. It urged the state government to halt the current postings and align future transfers with the academic calendar.
