Oyibode Stops Proposed ‘Sarki’ Installation Over Lack of Approval

The Udu Local Government Council in Delta State has suspended a proposed installation ceremony for a “Sarki,” a traditional Hausa title holder, citing security concerns and lack of official approval.

The move followed the emergence of banners and posters, some containing Arabic inscriptions, which announced the planned event across parts of the area. The development reportedly stirred unease among residents, prompting immediate attention from local authorities.

Chairman of the council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode (JP, FCIA), said the matter was reviewed at a security meeting where he ordered a full verification of the individual linked to the title. He also requested that leaders of the Hausa community in Udu provide details of the organiser and the purpose of the planned ceremony.

Oyibode warned that no such installation can proceed without clearance from the council, adding that security agencies have been directed to intervene if the directive is ignored. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring orderly coexistence among all groups in the area.
