Delta Governor Condemns Killing of Youth by Police Officer

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has condemned the killing of a young man, Oghenemine Ogidi, by a police officer, describing the incident as unacceptable and a serious violation of human life.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor said the action was unlawful and deeply disturbing, noting that it has caused grief to the family and concern across the state. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of government support.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Nigeria Police Force for the swift disciplinary measures taken, including the dismissal and prosecution of officers found responsible. According to him, the development reflects the need for accountability within the system.

Oborevwori insisted that those involved must face thorough investigation and prosecution, stressing that justice must be pursued to its conclusion.

He added that the state government will closely follow the case, ensure justice is achieved, and continue to prioritize the protection of lives and the enforcement of the rule of law.
