Anioma Leaders Endorse Ned Nwoko for Second Term Bid

The Izu Anioma, an umbrella body of Anioma stakeholders comprising traditional rulers, political leaders, and student representatives in Delta North, has endorsed Senator Ned Nwoko for a second term in office, citing his role in the ongoing agitation for the creation of Anioma State.

The decision was reached at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting where participants commended Nwoko’s performance at the National Assembly and his continued sponsorship of the bill seeking the creation of Anioma State with Asaba as proposed capital. The group also stressed the need to protect the movement from internal divisions.

At the meeting, traditional rulers expressed concern over recent political developments, including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s entry into the 2027 senatorial race under the APC and his opposition to aligning the proposed Anioma State with the South-East geopolitical zone, insisting instead that it remain in the South-South.

Stakeholders warned that conflicting positions could slow down the state creation process, reiterating their backing for South-East alignment and calling for unity of purpose as discussions around Anioma State continue to progress through constitutional channels.
