Police Arrest Suspected Cult Leaders Over Ughelli Murder

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended two suspected cult leaders in connection with a murder case in Ughelli following an intelligence-driven operation that also led to the recovery of firearms in Asaba.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the arrests were carried out by the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) after weeks of intelligence gathering over a cult-related killing that occurred on January 15, 2026, in the Iwhrekpokpo area of Ughelli town.

Acting on the intelligence, CP-SAT operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson reportedly raided a hotel in the Ekuigbo area of Ughelli around 11:30 a.m. on March 6, where the suspects were traced.

Police identified one of the suspects as Joshua Okpogona, 30, from Okwarabe community, alleged to be the Ughelli leader of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and a key figure in the January killing. Another suspect, Raphael Omokerhe, 37, popularly known as “Black Python” and said to be the immediate past leader of the group, was also taken into custody. Authorities said both men remain in custody as investigations continue.
