Trader Hospitalised After Hit-and-Run Driver Flees in Asaba

A trader, Augustina Oyadi, is receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba after she was allegedly knocked down by a tricycle rider who abandoned her at the hospital and fled. Oyadi, a foodstuff seller, sustained a serious leg injury in the incident, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon along the Iboza Junction–UBA axis in Asaba.

Eyewitnesses said the tricycle rider, a young Hausa man popularly referred to as “Aboki” initially tried to assist her after the accident. He rushed her to St. Joseph Hospital Asaba, but medical personnel there referred her to the Federal Medical Centre for specialist care due to the severity of her injury.

The rider later transported Oyadi to the federal facility but allegedly abandoned her at the female orthopaedic ward before quietly leaving the premises. This action left the victim and her family members stranded and grappling with the financial burden of her treatment.

Speaking from her hospital bed, a distressed Oyadi lamented her condition, stating that doctors said she may need to spend about ten days in treatment. She expressed pain over her situation and the rider’s disappearance after dropping her at the hospital.

Family members have lodged a complaint at the A Division Police Station Asaba to track down the fleeing rider. Authorities are working to ensure he is held accountable for the hit-and-run incident.
