DELSU Allows Students with Verified NELFUND to Write Exam
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has praised the management of Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), for adopting a student-friendly policy that permits beneficiaries of its loan scheme to sit for their first semester examinations.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said the directive was contained in an internal memorandum from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). According to the statement, students whose NELFUND status reflects either “Verified” or “Disbursed” are allowed to write their examinations upon presenting evidence of their loan application status.
The development has been hailed as a significant step toward easing the academic pressure on students awaiting fund disbursement. It ensures that no beneficiary is unfairly barred from participating in examinations due to delays or processing timelines associated with the loan scheme.
Reacting to the university’s decision, NELFUND’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, described it as a commendable example of institutional collaboration in support of Nigerian students. He noted that such cooperation between universities and the fund is essential to the successful implementation of the student loan programme.
The gesture by DELSU reinforces the growing partnership between tertiary institutions and NELFUND, aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder students from pursuing their academic goals.
