Delta North APC Seek Ward Congress Cancellation
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North Senatorial District have rejected the outcome of the ward congresses held across the area, alleging irregularities and exclusion of established party members from the process.
The group, in a statement signed by Chief Alex Ikpeazu, Ken Chad Rafua and Prince Iyke Mordi, said the consensus method adopted in producing executives led to parallel structures and shut out loyal members who have sustained the party over the years. They maintained that the process failed to reflect broad-based participation.
According to the stakeholders, tensions heightened following the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the APC, with claims that original members are being displaced within the party hierarchy. They also cited incidents of violence during the congresses as a setback to cohesion in the state chapter.
The coalition appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to review the exercise and ensure fairness. It further alleged that aspirants who paid for nomination forms ahead of the March 3 state chairmanship election were denied access to the forms, raising concerns over transparency and internal democracy.
