40 Delta Farmers Get N10m From First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative
Forty female farmers in Delta State have been awarded grants totaling N10 million to boost their agricultural businesses, while 1,200 households received essential food supplies in a relief initiative led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.
The grants and food distribution took place in Asaba, as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a program spearheaded by Mrs. Tinubu in partnership with Deaconess Oborevwori’s ‘You Matter Charity Foundation.’ The scheme aims to ease the economic strain on vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative sought to support women who are struggling due to economic hardship. She explained that each of the 40 selected female farmers received N250,000 to help sustain and expand their businesses, with the hope that this would positively impact their families and communities.
In addition to the financial grants, the Governor’s wife revealed that 1,200 bags of rice were distributed to households, along with other essential items such as cartons of noodles and cooking oil, as a contribution by the state government through the support of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. According to her, beneficiaries were carefully selected from across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Deaconess Oborevwori urged recipients to make the most of the support provided, encouraging the farmers to invest their grants wisely to ensure long-term business success.
Meanwhile, the initiative was praised by Commissioners for Women Affairs, Community Development, Humanitarian Services, and Agriculture, Princess Pat Ajudua, Hon. Orode Uduaghan, and Barr. Val Arenyeka. They noted that the collaboration between the First Ladies highlights the importance of partnerships in addressing local challenges. They encouraged recipients to utilize their support effectively.
Beneficiaries of the program expressed their gratitude. Hope Egbogbare, one of the farmers, said the grant would significantly boost her poultry business. Similarly, Mrs. Justina Emelue, who received food items, said the assistance had come at a critical time, as rising prices made basic goods difficult to afford.
The distribution is part of ongoing efforts to address the harsh economic reality in the country, particularly for those in the agricultural sector and vulnerable households.
