17-Year-Old Hacks Celebrities’ WhatsApp, Sells Content to Classmates -Delta Police
The Delta State Police Command has uncovered a case involving a 17-year-old boy accused of hacking into celebrities’ WhatsApp accounts and selling explicit content to fellow students. The revelation emerged during a security awareness programme where comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke engaged with the Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division, Uvwie Local Government Area, Temi Agbede-Zuokumor.
According to the police officer, the incident came to light after a routine check of a student’s phone raised suspicion. Although the boy’s mother initially claimed the device belonged to his sister, further examination by officers showed otherwise. A search of the phone uncovered more than 80 foreign contacts, including several Australian numbers, alongside numerous explicit materials stored on the device.
Investigations revealed that the teenager allegedly distributed the content to his classmates for a fee, with some referring to him as “boss” in their conversations. The probe also linked him to cyber fraud activities, including unauthorized access to WhatsApp accounts belonging to prominent individuals, which he reportedly used to solicit money from unsuspecting victims.
During the session, I Go Save shared a personal encounter with an online impersonator who claimed to be Elon Musk and requested financial assistance. The police used the case to caution parents and school authorities, urging closer monitoring of children’s digital activities amid rising concerns over youth involvement in cybercrime.
