“You Are Not My Brother” -Emuoboh Disowns George Gbagi
As Inheritance Tussle Thickens In Former Minister’s Family
Chief Emuoboh Gbagi, one of the children of former Minister of Education, late Kenneth Gbagi and former Special Adviser to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has disowned one Mr. George Gbagi who had claimed to be the first son of the former minister in a viral video over family inheritance.
In a phone conversation with this Warri Sentinel Reporter on Friday August 16, Emuoboh who reacted to claims by the said George, fumed that he is not aware his late father has a son.
“someone cannot emerge from no where after 46 years and claim to be my father’s eldest son”.
He revealed that he had a very close-knit relationship with his father who would have told him before he passed. “I was very close to my father. He would have told me. I don’t know who the said George Gbagi is”.
Emuoboh disclosed to Warri Sentinel how his family is handling the controversy. ” I have left the issue for my uncle, Olorogun Faith Gbagi and other elders in the family to handle. I have no further thing to say on this”.
However, the politician did not answer the question of whether he is the first son of the late gubernatorial aspirant in the last election.
Mr. George had claimed in a now viral video on social media to be Gbagi’s eldest son which is in contrast to the widely known impression that Emuoboh is the first son of the late industrialist.
George said, “I am George Gbagi, the first son of Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi. I want to state unequivocally that the Gbagi family is a highly reputed and disciplined and united family.”
He said that he decided to set the record straight on the backdrop of some ‘lies-infested claims’ concerning him and the family by Emuoboh.
George accused Emugboh of trying to usurp his position and making false claims about him, saying, “when people try to say things that are not truth, we just have to come out and address it because as I said earlier, it touches on the very foundation of my existence. That’s why this disclaimer became very necessary”.
He allegedly accused Emugboh of waging a war against their father’s widow, maintaining that despite the fact that his father had children with four women including his mother, he had only one wife, who is a judge.
He said, “Who goes about selling his father’s properties three days before his father’s burial and you telling everybody you’re the first son?
“Here is a young man who has been fighting and still fighting his father’s widow, sending people to my father’s house in Abuja, sending his sister to the house in UK to break into it.
“I don’t need to state the kind of people that were calling me to say ah your father just passed, why are you people putting all of his properties for sale?”
Among other things, George questioned Emugboh’s age, saying, “If I am well over and above 45 years and Emugboh says he is 39 years, how then is he Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi’s first son?”
Recall that Gbagi who was a governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in March 2023 died in May at the age of 62 and was buried last month.
The former minister of education under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, was born in September 1961 in Delta State, South-South Nigeria.
