Asaba, Ibusa Traditional Leaders Renew Push to End Land Disputes
There are renewed hopes for a lasting resolution of the long-running land disputes between the Asaba and Ibusa communities following a fresh peace move by the traditional leadership of both kingdoms.
The renewed commitment was expressed on Wednesday when the Onwa of Ibusa, Chief Barr. Fred Ajudua, led a delegation to the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking during the meeting, Asagba Azinge said he was optimistic that the lingering boundary and land disputes between the neighbouring communities would soon be resolved. He noted that his long-standing relationship with Chief Ajudua, dating back to their days at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, had strengthened mutual trust and created an avenue for frank discussions on issues affecting both kingdoms.
The monarch acknowledged the Onwa of Ibusa’s previous efforts at promoting reconciliation over the disputed lands and urged him to extend engagements to the leadership of Asaba villages that share common boundaries with Ibusa, describing such consultations as crucial to achieving a comprehensive settlement.
According to the Asagba, the traditional institution has a responsibility to prevent conflicts and foster unity among neighbouring communities.
He expressed confidence that sustained dialogue would bring an end to the disputes and preserve the age-long relationship between Asaba and Ibusa.
Responding, Chief Ajudua said his visit was aimed at reinforcing peace and strengthening ties between the two communities.
He also apologised on behalf of an individual who made offensive remarks against Asaba Kingdom on social media, noting that a rebuttal had already been issued.
The Onwa of Ibusa reaffirmed his respect for the Asagba and pledged his continued support for efforts aimed at securing a peaceful and lasting resolution of all outstanding issues between the two neighbouring kingdoms.
