UNICAL Honours Delta Princess as Best Graduating Medical Student
Princess Ziregbe Eshemitan, daughter of Orefe III, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom in Delta State, has emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student in Medicine at the University of Calabar, earning top honours at the institution’s 56th Physicians’ Oath-Taking Ceremony and Sponsio Academica.

Dr. Eshemitan received the Provost’s Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) programme and the Dr. Obal Otu Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Internal Medicine with Distinction.
As the overall best graduating student, she delivered the valedictory speech on behalf of the graduating medical class, encouraging her colleagues to uphold excellence, ethics and compassion in the practice of medicine.
The ceremony also featured the administration of the Physicians’ Oath by Fatima Kyari, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
Among family members present to celebrate the milestone were her father, His Royal Majesty Orefe III; her mother, Her Royal Majesty Iyobo Eshemitan; and her sister, Omeyoma Eshemitan, alongside other relatives, traditional chiefs, friends, and sons and daughters of Oghara Kingdom.
Speaking after the event, members of the royal family described the achievement as a reflection of years of discipline, resilience and commitment to excellence. Her sister, Princess Omeyoma Eshemitan, congratulated the new doctor, describing the honour as well-deserved and expressing confidence in her future contributions to the medical profession.
