El-Rufai Granted ₦100m Bail Over Alleged National Security Breach
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of ₦100 million over allegations bordering on breach of national security.
Delivering ruling on the bail application on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik imposed strict conditions the former governor must meet before he can regain his freedom.
The court ordered El-Rufai to provide one surety in like sum, who must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.
The surety must also be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months, backed by a confirmation letter from a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
In addition, the surety is required to depose to an affidavit of means, sign a bail bond, submit a recent passport photograph, as well as provide a verification letter from their department and a six-month tax clearance certificate.
The court further directed El-Rufai to surrender all valid international passports and report to the headquarters of the DSS every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register pending the conclusion of the trial.
Justice Abdulmalik warned that any failure to comply with the bail conditions would lead to automatic revocation of the bail, while also ordering an accelerated hearing of the case and directing El-Rufai to submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
