Oscars to Stream Exclusively on YouTube from 2029

The Academy Awards will move from broadcast television to exclusive global streaming on YouTube beginning with the 101st Oscars in 2029. The announcement brings an end to ABC’s long-standing role as the ceremony’s broadcaster after 2028.

Under the agreement, YouTube will carry the Oscars through 2033, alongside red-carpet coverage, behind-the-scenes programming and other Academy events. Viewers worldwide will have access to free livestreams with multilingual options.

Academy leaders said the shift reflects changing viewing habits and a push to reach wider audiences. The 2026 Oscars, hosted by Conan O’Brien on March 15, will still air on ABC before the transition.
