Rainstorm Damages Key Facilities at Delta NYSC Camp
A heavy rainstorm has caused considerable damage to key facilities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. The storm destroyed crucial infrastructure, including six electricity poles, the main kitchen, kitchen storage, and other essential facilities.
The State NYSC Coordinator, John Vandi Kwaghe, shared the news during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch A Stream I corps members. He explained that the damage had significantly impacted camp operations, especially in catering to the large number of corps members undergoing orientation.
“The destruction of the main kitchen and food storage areas has created real challenges in providing meals for the corps members,” Kwaghe noted. “Thankfully, the state government responded quickly, repairing some of the critical damage just in time for the orientation to begin.”
Kwaghe also cited the ongoing road construction within the camp, which he believes will improve movement, reduce erosion, and enhance the overall camp environment.
This year’s orientation program has welcomed 1,802 new corps members, including 829 males and 973 females. Kwaghe emphasized that the three-week orientation was designed to help them gain the skills and values necessary for serving the nation.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, assured the new corps members of their safety and well-being throughout their one-year service. He congratulated them on reaching this important milestone and welcomed them to Delta State.
