Warri South PDP Leaders Justify Oborevwori’s Defection to APC

Top political leaders and stakeholders of PDP, Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State have formally justified their defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing mounting internal turmoil within the PDP and a desire to better align with national governance.

The announcement came during a political stakeholders meeting held on Friday, April 25, in King George Hall, Warri South Local Government Secretariat.

Speaking at the meeting, Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, Chairman, Warri South Local Government Area, disclosed the decision to leave PDP was made after widespread consultations and a series of meetings held at multiple levels. He pointed to deep internal divisions, court battles, and a lack of trust among PDP governors, as well as a growing inability to effectively contest elections, as key factors in the move.

“The PDP we once knew is no longer the same,” said Agbateyiniro. “We have to make decisions that ensure our political survival and that of our people.”

The Leaders emphasized that joining APC would open doors withheld from Delta under PDP control.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Val Arenyeka, reassured attendees that the move was not about abandoning identity, but about preserving the political family and protecting their constituents’ interests.

“It is the people that make up the party and not the party that makes up the people. We have the structure, let nobody intimidate you” said Arenyeka.

A major rally is now being planned for Monday, April 28, when the national leadership of APC is expected to formally welcome the defectors in Asaba.

Attendees were urged to mobilize supporters ahead of the event, which is being viewed as the official start of a new chapter in Delta State politics.
