Court Fines Lady For Emotional Damages

A Magistrates’ Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered Rhoda Adu to pay a total of ₦150,000 to her former boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after she failed to fulfil an agreement and caused him emotional distress.

The case began from an incident in which Sola transferred ₦3,000 to Adu for transport fare, with the expectation that she would visit him. However, Adu did not honour invitation, switched off her phone, and failed to show up. Sola who felt defrauded and upset, reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Adu’s arrest and subsequent trial.

During proceedings, Sola presented evidence, including mobile money transfers and WhatsApp messages, to support his claims.

The court emphasised that the ruling aimed to serve as a deterrent against similar behaviour in the future.
