110 Youths Empowered with Computer Skills in Delta

A total of 110 indigenes from Owerre-Okubor in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State have successfully completed a free computer application training course organized by the Owerre-Olubor Youths Association.

The five-day training program, which concluded on Thursday, aimed at improving digital skills, promoting social interaction, and fostering networking among the youths of the community.

Speaking at the event’s closing ceremony, Mr. Adimabua Ogbu, President of the Owerre-Olubor Youths Association, stressed the importance of community-driven initiatives. He revealed that the association, which was founded five years ago with the support of the traditional ruler, Pa Okwuudi Ngwai, the Ogwude of Owerre-Olubor, was created to foster social inclusion, enhance community cohesion, and collaborate with local organisations and government bodies.

“We must always reflect on what we can do to improve the lives of our people,” Ogbu said.

He noted that youth empowerment is central to the association’s mission, and through education, training, and mentorship, they aim to drive meaningful change.

The computer training initiative was open to all quarters within the community, and Ogbu confirmed that it would be an ongoing program, with plans for more similar projects in the future. The association aims to equip young people with skills that will help them thrive in an increasingly digital world.

One of the beneficiaries, 15-year-old Clement Udoka, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I really enjoyed the program. It was a pleasant surprise to see such a gesture. We didn’t have to pay any fees, and we were even provided meals throughout the course. I feel more confident now in using technology.”

Other participants, including Ms. Blessing Abah and Peterson Chinwuedo, also praised the initiative and called for more partnerships between the government and community organizations to further empower youths in the region.

In addition to the training, the Owerre-Olubor Youths Association has been actively involved in improving the community’s infrastructure. The group has undertaken road construction projects, including the grading of local streets and the construction of the 5-kilometer Olubor Link Road, which aims to improve transportation and overall accessibility for residents.
