Navy Hands Over Seized Barge and Trucks to EFCC in Warri
The Nigerian Navy Ship Delta (NNS Delta) has seized a barge and two trucks suspected of being involved in illegal oil bunkering operations, handing them over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.
The barge, named ‘Oghenekome,’ and the trucks, with registration numbers LSD 337 XA and ABJ 809 XN, were intercepted by Navy operatives on November 7 at the Nigerian Inland Waterways Agency (NIWA) jetty in Warri.
Commodore Abba Muhsin, Commander of NNS Delta, confirmed the handover to the EFCC on Tuesday. He said the operation, carried out by Navy personnel aboard a gunboat, was part of ongoing efforts under Operation Delta Sanity, which aims to combat oil theft and maritime crimes in the region.
He reiterated the Commands commitment to eliminating illegal oil theft and related criminal activities in its operational areas. Commodore Muhsin also expressed gratitude to government agencies and the public for providing intelligence that led to the successful operation against oil theft and other criminal activities.
The seized items were handed over to Abdullahi Usman Nuhu, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, who led a team from the Benin Zonal Directorate in Edo State.
