INEC Fixes June 25 for Primaries in Warri’s North II, South-West II ‘Restored’ Constituencies
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored the Warri North II and Warri South-West II State Constituencies in Delta State and scheduled June 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The decision was contained in a press statement issued on Wednesday, by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, following court judgments directing the restoration of previously suppressed constituencies in Benue, Delta, Jigawa and Kogi states.
According to the commission, the restored constituencies in Delta State are Aniocha North II, Ika North East II, Sapele II, Ethiope West II, Warri South-West II and Warri North II.
INEC said political parties intending to field candidates in the restored constituencies must submit notices of their primaries to the commission ahead of the exercise, noting that all other timelines in the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election remain applicable.
The restoration of Warri North II and Warri South-West II is coming amid ongoing efforts to address representation concerns arising from the Supreme Court-ordered delineation of the Warri Federal Constituency
The delineation exercise, carried out by INEC following a landmark Supreme Court judgment, sought to resolve longstanding disputes over electoral wards and constituency boundaries in the Warri axis.
