Osubi Airport Denies Air Peace Bird Strike Claim

Management of Osubi Airport in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State has denied claims by Air Peace that one of its aircraft suffered a bird strike while landing at the airport on June 5.

Air Peace had said its Lagos-Osubi flight experienced a bird strike upon landing, leading to the grounding of the aircraft and cancellation of the return flight to Lagos.

However, Airport Manager, Winston Egwuatu said preliminary investigations showed the incident did not occur within Osubi Airport.

“We believe that the operating aircraft likely picked the bird from the departing airport,” he said.

Egwuatu added that Osubi recently marked nearly two years without a recorded bird strike and that inspections conducted before and after the aircraft’s arrival found no carcass, feathers or bird activity on the runway.

The incident is still being investigated.
