Four Convicted Over Owo Catholic Church Attack Get Death Sentence
Four terrorists convicted for their roles in the June 5, 2022 attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, have been sentenced to death by hanging by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite found the four defendants guilty on all nine counts brought against them and ordered that they be hanged until death.
The convicts are 25-year-old Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, 20-year-old Al Qasim Idris, 26-year-old Jamiu Abdulmalik, and 25-year-old Abdulhaleem Idris.
The attack on the church claimed the lives of 43 worshippers and left several others injured.
Meanwhile, the fifth defendant, 47-year-old Momoh Otuho Abubakar, was discharged and acquitted by the court.
