Omo-Agege Claims Oborevwori Left PDP for APC to Avoid Direct Political Contest

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has alleged that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) because of concerns over a potential political showdown ahead of future elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Omo-Agege argued that his political strength in Delta State had continued to grow since the 2023 elections, insisting that he remained a major force in the state’s political landscape.

The former senator recalled that the APC secured two of Delta State’s three senatorial seats in the 2023 general elections. He pointed specifically to Delta Central Senatorial District, where he said the APC recorded a significant victory.

According to him, APC candidate Ede Dafinone defeated the PDP candidate in the Delta Central Senate race, a result he attributed to the strength and organization of the party under his leadership.

Omo-Agege also maintained that he did not accept the outcome of the 2023 governorship election, insisting that he believed he won the contest. He further claimed that as he embarked on post-election consultations and political engagements across Delta State, many politicians and supporters abandoned the PDP for the APC due to what he described as growing dissatisfaction with the governor’s leadership.

The former deputy senate president argued that if Governor Oborevwori did not view him as a serious political challenger, there would have been no need for the governor to leave the PDP.

“If Oborevwori was convinced I posed no threat, he would have remained in the PDP and faced me politically,” Omo-Agege stated.

His remarks add another chapter to the ongoing political debate in Delta State as parties and key figures continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
