Warri Delineation: Ijaw, Urhobo Stakeholders Protest, Demand Implementation
Hundreds of Ijaw and Urhobo stakeholders on Monday staged a peaceful protest in Warri, Delta State, demanding the immediate implementation of the final delineation report released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Warri Federal Constituency.
The protesters, who gathered at the Warri Main Market carrying placards, accused forces within the presidency of frustrating the implementation of the Supreme Court-ordered delineation exercise despite INEC’s presentation of the “final” report on May 20.
Reading a statement on behalf of the protesters, Chief Godspower Gbenekema insisted that the rule of law must prevail, while other stakeholders warned that further delays could heighten tensions in the constituency.
The demonstrators urged INEC to implement the approved wards, registration areas and state constituencies ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Other speakers were Alaowei Denbo-Denbofa Oweikpodor, Chief David Reje, Chief Femi Okumagba, who represented the people of Okere-Urhobo kingdom, Amatelemowei Sode (Esq.) who spoke on behalfof Ijaw and Urhobo youths, and Chief Christiana Seibibo.
